4e. Proper subject-verb sentence structure preferred in a subordinate clause


A subordinate clause, same as the case of a main clause, should include a subject and a verb. A proper subject-verb sentence structure is preferred in a subordinate clause to a gerund or a prepositional construction. This style issue concerns a combination of problems:

 

 

 

 

 

However, do not immediately reject gerund constructions, especially when the preposition is not underlined. After a preposition, a noun or a noun phrase must be used. Hence, the verb in the subordinate clause should be changed to gerund.
